Digital Twin for column control optimization
Type of service: Online Application: Process Digital Twin for column controllability
Inprocess client: Spanish Oil Company
Year: 2022
Country: Spain
Description: A petrochemicals facility in a refinery needed to optimize two propane-propylene splitter columns with the objective of minimizing propylene losses at the bottom of the second column. With Inprocess, the client drafted a strategy focused on analyzing and optimizing different areas of the processing complex.
Inprocess developed a dynamic model adjusted to 2 years of operating data and evaluated multiple plant operating conditions.
The study enabled the definition of optimal operating conditions, reducing propylene losses from an average of 15% to nearly zero. Following the success of the project, the same methodology was extended to optimize the performance of the extractive distillation column.
