Abstract/Summary
Rigorous Simulation helps engineers to understand and identify process dynamics and interactions in a riskfree environment; in addition, it also allows the evaluation and tuning of advanced controllers before they are commissioned. A number of recent APC projects have benefited from this combined methodology, resulting in a better controller design, more accurate inferentials, less plant tests, more confidence with the controller models and an overall reduced risk. Suitability of the methodology for certain units and simulation myths and barriers are reviewed.
